This edition we highlight International Trade and UK Ministerial appointments following the UK Government Cabinet Reshuffle last week. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s latest ministerial changes came after he sacked Home Secretary Suella Braverman and grabbed headlines around the world for bringing back former Prime Minister David Cameron from the political wilderness as Foreign Secretary. PM Sunak has said his government is now able to cut taxes, after the pace of price rises eased. The Chief Executives of 37 UK Chambers, representing over 35,000 businesses, have called on the UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt to use the Autumn Statement due out this week to offer ‘much needed solutions to Britain’s investment problem’. The latest factsheet from the UK’s Department of Business & Trade showing Total trade in goods and services (exports plus imports) between the UK and Canada was £25.9bn in the 4 quarters to the end of Q2 2023, an increase of 6.0% or £1.5bn in current prices from the four quarters to the end of Q2 2022. Canada was the UK’s 18th largest trading partner in the 4 quarters to the end of Q2 2023 accounting for 1.4% of total UK trade.
