Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber
Last week we held a UK Budget webinar and it was great to see so many of you online. We had panellists from Blick Rothenberg, Redfern Legal and Crestview Strategy offering their views - many members commented that this was a challenging budget for UK-based businesses with increases in Employer National Insurance Contributions plus increases in the National Living Wage. We await to see the impact for the UK economy and the effect on investment and recruitment. The view expressed by the British Chambers of Commerce is that ‘[a] lot will be riding on the success of the Industrial and Trade strategies, and the effectiveness of devolution and public investment in infrastructure to reinvigorate regional supply chains’.
A warm welcome to our newest members: S&P Global (latest Charter member); GHGSat; Foes Inc and Cobblestone Chronicles. If you’d like an introduction to any of them do get in touch with us at info@canada-uk.org
Reminder: there is still a few more days for members to complete the Annual Member Survey and a chance to win airline tickets. We are very grateful that so far over 42% have completed it, and your comments and feedback will help shape our Business Plan 2025. The draw for the tickets will take place online on 11 Nov at 4pm – we will send a link this week to those that have entered.
We are finalising a DEI Forum breakfast event on 26 Nov which will be promoted shortly and so this edition we focus on DEI news and have articles featured from: BMO; Deloitte; Gowling WLG; RBC; Rolls Royce; Scotiabank; TD Bank and Teck.
The world's largest business show is back for 2024, returning to London's ExCeL on the 13 & 14 Nov and alongside this is the Going Global Live show aiming to help businesses wishing to expand overseas. As in the past the Chamber has a stand so come and visit us!
The next two months is always a busy time of year for our event programme and coming up we have: a webinar with Roz Morris titled 'Do you have the Skills to Succeed in the Visual Economy?' (4 Nov). Other events are also being finalised and will be promoted shortly including our Christmas lunch (Fri 6 Dec) with Tim Richards, Founder & CEO, Vue International at Saddlers’ Hall in London. Vue is now the largest privately held cinema operator in Europe. Tim resides in London, England and holds Canadian, British and US passports.
We feature some more UK and Canadian success stories this edition. If your company would like to feature in a future publication focusing on Canadian and UK Success stories, helping both the UK and Canada to grow and prosper, do get in touch.
Happy business networking and come and see us soon.
