Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber
Over the weekend many of our members will have read that the Rt Hon Kemi Badenoch, UK Business and Trade Secretary, formally signed the treaty confirming the UK’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) - the Indo-Pacific trade bloc worth £12 trillion in GDP. The UK Government will now take the steps needed to bring the agreement into force, expected to be next year. Membership will further strengthen UK-Canada relations with both countries being members - read more here.
Thank you to so many of you for joining us at our busy June event programme last month including our 14th Annual Canadian Chief Economists panel debate and lunch, lunch with Jonathan Price, Teck’s CEO, a business roundtable with Victor Dodig, CIBC’s CEO, receptions with the Ivey Business School and British Columbia’s Finance Minister Katrine Conroy, the Chamber’s Annual Pancake breakfast with H.E. Ralph Goodale, and an Invest in Canada Business Day organised by Rainmaker at Canada House. Many of our members were also present at the Canada Day celebrations in Trafalgar Square as well as at the VIP reception at Canada House with The Hon Anita Anand, Canada's Minister of National Defence, and the Rt Hon Ben Wallace, UK Secretary of State for Defence -see post for event photos.

Additionally, we have news of a Canadian success story in the UK: BenchSci, a biomedical start-up founded in 2015 by University of Toronto alumni has opened a UK base in Cambridge.

This June we launched our new enhanced website, with members having log in and passwords and able to contact each other subject to setting appropriate privacy settings.
