Dear Members & Friends of the Chamber
We hope you are enjoying your summer.
With a change in government in the UK there has been a spotlight on Canada with the UK’s Chancellor Rachel Reeves meeting bosses of Canada’s public sector pension schemes earlier this month in Toronto in an effort to ‘fire up the UK’s economy’ by creating a “Canadian-style” pensions model for the UK’s local government retirement schemes. We wait to see whether by diversifying investment, the plans could inject £8bn into the UK economy, as hoped by the Treasury. Canada’s top schemes (the Maple 8) manage around $2trn worth of taxpayer-backed pension schemes.
Many of the Maple 8 representatives will be joining us in London as we host Tiff Macklem, the Governor of the Bank of Canada for a lunch in London (10 Sept) register here. We do hope to see many of you there too. Other events coming up in September include: Canada-UK Nuclear Day at Canada House (4 Sept); a DEI Forum virtual workshop on ‘Leading an Empowered Workforce’ with Eagle’s Flight (16 Sept); and ‘How to use Digital marketing software for business development’ webinar with Steve Mills (23 Sept). Other events are also being finalised including member engagement events in Q3/Q4.
This edition we feature Member Updates, from member companies AtkinsRealis, Air Canada, Babcock, Brookfield, Central FX, CGI, Cognitive Systems, Gowling WLG, Hatch, OpenText and Rolls Royce. We would like to wish a warm welcome to our newest corporate Members, Brijens and Bolivar Risk.
If your company would like to feature in a future publication focusing on Canadian and UK Success stories helping both the UK and Canada to grow and prosper, do get in touch.
Meantime happy networking, and have a great summer.
