After decades of experimental development and tepid growth, AI has been experiencing a boom since the turn of the decade. Its advancement is both rapid and wide, and it represents the most consequential technological revolution since the Internet. In other words, “AI is the new steam”.
The banking and financial sectors have always been at the forefront of digital innovation and adoption. AI is more than just another step on that ladder. AI has opened up a new frontier in the fintech industry, enabling and catalysing the emergence of new tools that, if they become mainstream, can boost profits and productivity in a scale never seen before. AI can not only disrupt the industry but also upend entire economies. Amid all the risks and rewards, the AI race is on.
The foregoing raises many questions. Is AI a silver bullet, or is it more of the same? Is the rise of generative AI models inevitable, or could it all come to a halt? Are there risks associated to its design, development and deployment, and are both industry and governments erecting the guardrails required to enhance the good in terms of value creation, financial inclusion, markets stability and environmental sustainability while mitigating the bad?
The U.K. and Canada are world leaders in AI safety and governance. As sovereign nations of the Commonwealth, and as members of the G7, both countries have championed, enacted and/or signed on to a voluntary Code of Conduct for AI developers. Some of the world’s most reputed AI think tanks and companies are based in the UK and in Canada. Over half a trillion dollars depends on that bilateral relationship, and a significant part of it is concentrated in the financial and the technology sectors.
To explore these issues, we have assembled an expert panel of industry leaders, regulators and practitioners from both sides of the Atlantic. During this thought-provoking session, our panellist will discuss how AI will continue to transform the fintech industry in the future, including emerging trends, potential challenges, and opportunities for innovation and growth.
Potential Discussion points include:
The panel discussion will be followed by a pitch presentation by the UK Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) fintech cohort 2024. To learn more about the CTA programme and about the innovative companies that comprise the fintech cohort, please see the dealbook here.
